Blackjack Online Strategy
The two most common moves in blackjack are hit and stand and eight out of every ten hands roughly you’ll end up choosing one of these two options. When you hit in blackjack you’re asking for another card and when you stand you’re asking for no more cards. There are some hands that are simple to make decisions on and we’ll look at those first, but there are some hands when you need to use some strategy and memory.
Total of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11
When you have one of the above totals you should automatically hit your hand. You can’t lose by taking a card with the above totals so there is no reason why you wouldn’t take a card. This is one of the easiest decisions to make and there shouldn’t be any thought put into this decision.
Total of 17, 18, 19, 20
When you have a 17, 18, 19 or 20 you should always stand. Generally if you hit this hand you’ll get a card that will make you bust your hand and forfeit your bet. Having one of the above totals is a good hand in blackjack and although it can be beat you should take the odds and stand on this type of total. It’s another easy decision to make and there isn’t any thought that needs to be put into this choice.
Total of 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16
You’ll need to think the most about whether to hit or stand when you have one of the above totals. These totals are teasers and you could potentially hit a good card or bust your hand. I typically recommend hitting these hands as long as the dealer shows a 7 or better as there first card. If they have a 2-6 then I will sometimes stand as the dealer has a good chance of busting there hand. Memory can come into play here as your decision can be based on previous cards. If the deck has been stacked with high valued cards then you might be due for a low card and then you might hit. A lot of hitting or standing in this position is personal feeling, and if you’re feeling it then take a card.
Hitting or standing in blackjack is almost automatic with most hands and when you come to the hands where you need to make a tough decision it’s up to you. The odds are about equal when making the tough decisions so you need to base your decision on your memory of past cards and your gut feeling. You aren’t going to win every blackjack strategy hand that’s a given and although you can make the percentage plays sometimes it’s better not taking the percentage play and going with your gut. You’ll need to decide when it’s time to take the percentages and when you should follow your gut, but with the right decisions you’ll do excellent in blackjack.
